During MotoAmerica weekend at The Ridge Motorsports Park (June 27–29), our team at The Remix Racing Project had the opportunity to share our story and our mission in a conversation with the Mental Health and Motorcycles Podcast. Set against the backdrop of a high-performance race weekend, we spoke openly about the mental health challenges that exist in racing culture—and how our team is working to create space for healing, honesty, and support through the sport we love.

Mental health impacts every paddock, every pit, and every person—whether you’re racing, wrenching, or watching from the stands. We’re grateful to the podcast team and to our community for helping us amplify the message that you don’t have to suffer in silence.

In this heartfelt interview, Shanea and Hailey Makinson open up about their incredible journey from surviving domestic violence and breast cancer to finding strength and healing through motor racing. As a mother-daughter team, they share how the motorcycle community and racing have become their sanctuary—helping them overcome personal struggles and mental health challenges. Their story is one of resilience, empowerment, and hope, showing how passion and support can light the way through even the darkest times.

Beyond racing, they use their platforms—Truth Be Told Apparel and The Remix Racing Project—to raise awareness and break the stigma surrounding mental health and addiction. They emphasize the importance of creating safe, supportive spaces for people to share their stories and find healing. This inspiring conversation invites everyone to find their own outlet and reminds us all that there is always a path forward.
